Difficult is not synonymous with burden. Everyone has things about them that are hard for other people to navigate. Every person has quirks or personality traits or life challenges that take a toll on the people in their lives. And that isn’t your fault. It isn’t some moral failing or inadequacy. It’s a normal, inevitable part of interpersonal relationships. It’s part of what it means to be human, and it’s okay. There’s not a single person on this planet that is easy and wonderful to be around 100% of the time. So it’s not fair to expect yourself to be some uncomplicated, paragon of perfection every moment of every day either. You’re human and you’re imperfect and wired to be a pain sometimes, and it’s okay. You are okay. And no matter what darkness you carry or how many difficult traits you might harbor, you’re still deserving of kindness and human relationships. No matter what scars you wear or which hard truths you own, you’re still deserving of love.
